Edinburgh Cake Festival – What is not to like?

Edinburgh’s Cake Festival this year was took place at the Royal Botanic Gardens on Sunday June 21, 2015. I went around 3:30pm and the turn out was amazing. The weather turned out to be nice. I hope that they do it again next year. That being said there was a lot that could have been improved.

In my opinion, the lay out of the event could have been spaced out a bit more through out the garden surrounding Inverleith House Gallery. Behind the House could have held all the food vendors. This would have reduce some of the human congestion that seemed to block the flow of the event. The market stalls and craft area could have been closer to the House. Just getting to see the cakes was a bit of a nightmare due to the amount of people.

After waiting in line for about ten mins, and having heaps of people behind us, the worst is when you get to the counter to be told everything is sold out. Then having to spread the word down the line, to people who happen to be feeling hot and now slightly grumpy.

Getting to the window to be told they are sold out.

A lot of the entertainment was ignored due to the fact of where they were placed. Which was a shame, because some of the music was not bad. The Tea Ladies were alright because they could move and dance around, which means the crowd could gather around them. The children loved throwing sugar cubes into the cups of tea on the performers heads. It was really a bit of a laugh.

There were so many people around the cake tent, I felt that I was unable to get a really good look at all the hard work the bakers put in. Next year they should have ropes to guide you around the hole monument, so that everyone may see the the masterpieces of work and keep people flowing.

Cake!

Other than that I really think the Cake Festival should happen again.
